Texas Tech sophomore C.J. Williamson announced his departure from the university's basketball program on Thursday morning.

The Orlando, Fla. product played in 21 games as a reserve during his freshman season, averaging 1.7 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. He signed with Tubby Smith's staff in 2014, choosing the Red Raiders over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Kansas State and others.

Williamson was not expected to play a significant role for Texas Tech's 2016-17 basketball team.
