Vasher is focused on a playoff run

The Red Raiders will be bringing in a full group of talent at the wide receiver
position in the 2016 class, including Wichita Falls (Texas) Rider standout
T.J. Vasher. The 6-foot-5, 180-pound recruit pledged himself to the Red
Raiders the first week of June, and has been loyally committed ever since. He's
just completed a successful regular season, and has his mind set on the UIL 5A
state playoffs, which is arguably one of the nation's toughest paths to maneuver
through.
WHAT'S NEXT?:
When Vasher's playoff chase runs its course, he'll have a major decision to
make. The rivals four star also has the skills to play basketball at the next
level. He's played on Rider's varsity team since his freshman year. Head
basketball coach Tubby Smith offered Vasher a spot on the team if he chooses to
play. However, he's been wrestling with the decision to play, and may even
forego his senior season of hoops to prepare for his football career at Texas
Tech. If the pass catcher decides to continue his run as a multi sport athlete,
he's confident in his ability to keep a healthy balance between the both.
IN HIS WORDS: "One of my goals is to definitely start working to get
ready for Lubbock and Texas Tech. One thing I haven't decided is if I'm playing
basketball this year or not. If i don't, I'll probably take a week or two off
and get right back to work" said Vasher. "It'd be pretty tough but I'm a pretty
focused person. I can kind of do two things at one time. I feel like if take a
certain amount of time with one thing and get my mind right, I can do it with
the other."
OUR REACTION:
Vasher has had a great senior season at Rider, and it could keep going on into
December if Rider can keep rolling in the playoffs. Basketball could come after
that, and the wide receiver is plenty talented on the hard wood as well. Whether
he decides to pursue hoops or not, Red Raider fans should be excited about
getting a multifaceted, proven athlete like Vasher onto campus in the near
future. -- Will McKay
