The Recruiting Six-Pack: Red Raiders land Flower Mound LB Brock Golwas

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are not slowing down during the off-season. They are fresh off from hosting their Junior Day last weekend, in which plenty of top recruits came out to the 806 to visit. Let's look at some of the latest offers and other Red Raider recruiting news.

Brock Golwas. 2025 inside linebacker, Flower Mound, Texas. (Marcus HS). 5.5, three-star recruit.

Brock Golwas from Flower Mound Marcus committed to the Red Raiders on January 15th. He was one of the recruits in town over the weekend for Junior Day and had an offer from Army. Golwas is an athlete who plays on both sides of the ball at Marcus but is being recruited as a linebacker by the Red Raiders. Per MaxPreps, he rushed for 258 yards and ten touchdowns while adding 38 tackles, three TFLs, seven QB hurries, and recovered two fumbles in 11 games for the Marauders. He becomes the eighth recruit in the Red Raiders 2025 class, currently ranked #16 overall.

Tyvonn Byars. 2025 running back, Montgomery, Texas. (Lake Creek HS). Not ranked by Rivals.

The Red Raiders offered 2025 Montgomery (TX) Lake Creek running back Tyvonn Byars on January 17th. The offer was his second at the time, and he also holds offers from SMU, Houston, and Tulsa. Byars was also in town over the weekend for Junior Day. Last season for the Lions, he rushed for 1,416 yards and 30 touchdowns, eight receptions for 79 yards, and a touchdown in nine games, per MaxPreps, and was named to the District 10-5A First team. This was after he rushed for 2,346 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2022. I asked Byars about getting the offer from Texas Tech, and he said, "Patience is the key. You have to be willing to work even when you don't realize the results." Look for him to be receiving more offers shortly.

Chase Loftin. 2025 tight end, Omaha, Nebraska. (Millard South High School). 5.7, three-star recruit, #28 TE, and #2 in NE.

The Red Raiders offered 2025 Omaha (NE) Millard South tight end Chase Loftin on January 11th. The three-star recruit has offers from Duke, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas State, Miami (FL), Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Texas A&M, UTEP, and Wisconsin. Per MaxPreps, he finished the 2023 season with 34 receptions for 440 yards and six touchdowns in 11 games played for the Wolves.

Terry Shelton. 2025 wide receiver, Irving, Texas. (Ranchview High School). Not ranked by Rivals.

The Red Raiders offered 2025 Irving (TX) Ranchview wide receiver Terry Shelton, which was his first. On getting offered by Texas Tech, he said, "I'm so thankful for Coach McGuire and Coach Blanchard for believing in me and the rest of the coaching staff. I am beyond humbled and thankful!" Shelton finished the 2023 season with 32 receptions for 629 yards and eight touchdowns for the Wolves, per MaxPreps. He is also on the Wolves basketball team.

Bryson Webber. 2025 cornerback, Missouri City, Texas. (Ridge Point High School). Not ranked by Rivals.

The Red Raiders offered 2025 Missouri City (TX) Ridge Point HS cornerback Bryson Webber on January 17th, his first. I asked him about receiving the offer from Texas Tech, "I really appreciate them believing in me enough to give me a full-ride offer. They are definitely a top option moving forward." Webber said. He also picked up his second offer from Nebraska shortly after. In 11 games for the Panthers last season, he finished with 22 tackles, two TFLs, three passes defended, and two interceptions, per MaxPreps.

Avery Morcho. 2026 offensive tackle, Missouri, City. (Ridge Point High School). Not ranked by Rivals.

The Red Raiders offered 2026 Missouri City Ridge Point offensive tackle Avery Morcho on January 17, which was the first for him. He was named to the District 20-6A Second Team as a sophomore. I asked him how it felt to receive his first offer, and he said, "It was very surprising, and I'm very humbled and honored." Morcho also plays basketball for the Panthers.
