Texas Tech set to host Panhandle DT on visit

Canadian (Texas) defensive lineman Tyler Carr will be visiting Texas Tech this weekend.

“I was invited to the game by coach (Kevin) Patrick. My first contact was at that camp in Lubbock, and we talked pretty frequently after that camp. We kind of fell off when football started, but he recently started reaching back out to me. We’ve even talked on the phone a couple times recently.”

Carr gave a quick preview of what he is looking forward to the most from the visit.

“I just want to see the position group and how it’s really going. After talking with coach Patrick, I just like him more and more as a person and as a coach, and I’m just looking forward to see how he does the coaching aspect. I’ve seen everything else but the football in action.”

The 6-foot-6, 250-pound recruit plays both tight end and defensive end for Canadian. He is in heavy contact with both Texas Tech and Oklahoma State currently and is hoping to get a highlight package to them soon. Carr feels like the interest from Tech is legitimate, he just understands that he needs to put it all together on film first before things really pick up.

“I think where I’m at right now is that last year my only film was at tight end. I didn’t have a lot to show what I could do in a game on the defensive line. I think that’s the point at right now, just get some, have some game film of what I could do on the defensive side. With the Tech coaches and OSU, I have to send out mid-year game film. Which I guess is the next jump.”

With four sacks through three games so far this season, Carr feels like he already has some good things to put on film, but he wants to show more.

“One thing I feel like I have showed on film is that I’m not going to let you drive me off the ball. I’m going to hold my ground and go where I want. One thing I need to get on my film and show the coaches is that I can move laterally pretty well. As a tight end, I’ve shown that I can run, now it’s transitioning to the defensive line and adding that all together.”
