Texas Tech fires Mike Leach

According to Mike Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, Texas Tech has fired his client following a bizarre 72-hour period that involved a suspension and legal filings.
Leach was suspended by the university on Monday afternoon following the receipt of a complaint centering on his treatment of sophomore receiver Adam James following an injury.

Ruffin McNeill, the Red Raiders' defensive coordinator, will act as interim head coach for the Red Raiders' Jan. 2 matchup against Michigan State in the 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl.
In February, following months of contentious negotations, Leach signed a 5-year extension with Texas Tech worth $12.7 million. He leaves as the program's all-time winningest head coach, notching a 84-43 record in 10 seasons.
