Tech interested in big Cy Ridge wideout?

It was very clear what the Texas Tech coaching staff was on the look for in the 2016 class at wide receiver: size. They accomplished that goal, finding three receivers over six-foot three in TJ Vasher, Derrick Willies, and Antoine Cox-Wesley.

Now, for the 2017 class, it appears the Tech staff will head back to that well yet again, as six-foot-four Houston (Texas) Cy Ridge receiver Kevin LeDee appears to be in their crosshairs.

LeDee, a Houston Cypress Ridge product, recently started hearing from Emmett Jones and is already looking to set up a visit to Lubbock.

Houston area native garnered First Team All-District recognition after snagging 33 receptions for 547 yards and nine touchdowns during his junior season.

WHAT'S NEXT?:

LeDee holds three offers currently from Bowling Green, Illinois, and Memphis, and the pass catcher expects even more down the road once spring ball gets going here in the coming weeks when more coaches can come take a look for themselves.

The Cy Ridge product has already been out visiting schools as well, having visited Houston, Texas State, and SMU over the past few months.

LeDee is also aware of the Midland scrimmage that Texas Tech is hosting this weekend and is considering taking a visit out to the Permian Basin to catch a glimpse of Kliff Kingsbury's fourth year squad at the scrimmage.

The 6-foot-4 receiver is a tri-sport athlete right now, playing football, basketball, and running the 200-meter dash for Cy Ridge this spring.

IN HIS WORDS:

On talking to Tech assistant Emmett Jones:

“He was talking about spring ball and his experience playing football at the next level. He was telling me how he could bring all the potential out of me and stuff like that. We talked about me coming down there for spring ball. I’m really looking forward to setting a visit up.”

On what he knows about Tech:

"(Coach Jones) was asking me how recruiting was going, and I told him that Texas Tech is a school I had been wanting to talk to and hear from. I really like how it’s close to home and their offensive system is a big plus. I could score a lot in that offense and make big plays. I have also noticed that down field blocking is a big part of their offense too and one of my strong points is my blocking. Most receivers don’t like to block, but I think I could play a big part in that aspect.”

OUR REACTION:

The Red Raiders are clearly targeting size yet again in the 2017 class, and LeDee certainly fits the bill from that perspective. Tech seems to be pretty interested if Emmett Jones is already on the case, and a visit to either the Midland scrimmage or out to Lubbock later this spring would indicate things moving forward in a big way. - Will McKay
