Smith still hearing from the Red Raiders

Texas Tech offered Spring (Texas) defensive back Ka'Darian Smith

in June after he impressed at the program's satellite camp in Spring. Fast forward a few months and -- despite being committed to the Houston Cougars
-- Smith is still in contact with the Red Raiders and hears from the coaches on a regular basis. Smith has developed a relationship with defensive backs coach Kevin Curtis and is definitely listening to what
Texas Tech has to say.
WHAT'S NEXT?:
Smith's Spring squad is 8-1 on the year and has a final district showdown versus Klein Oak on Friday. Spring has already locked up the
district crown and Smith thinks the team is capable of putting together a very deep playoff run. On the recruiting trail, Smith is still fielding interest from various other schools including Arkansas and Minnesota and said he receives mail from those schools frequently. A future visit to Texas Tech could also be in the works and while an exact date has not yet been decided on, the two-star prospect is interested in visiting the South Plains.
IN HIS WORDS:
"I still talk with them every day. Coach (Kevin) Curtis messages me a lot and we have a good relationship. He always keeps it real with me and tells me the truth," he said. "Coach (David) Gibbs was the coach who offered me over the summer, and I love his style of defense. The aggressiveness and the turnovers really stick out to me."
OUR REACTION:
Texas Tech's secondary needs as much help as it can get right now, and Smith
would bring an element of size to the cornerback position that isn't there right
now. It's clear that the Red Raiders want to add at least one more defensive
back to this class, and Smith or Odessa's Desmon Smith could be two
targets at or near the top of that list. -- Aaron Dickens
