late push from Nebraska, he stuck with the Red Raiders down the stretch towards signing day.
Shorts is profiled below in the latest installment of our signee Q&A feature which we are running on all of the members of the Red Raiders' 2015 signing class.
TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT MIGHT SURPRISE PEOPLE.
"I'm a hard worker and I get along with people very well."
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CLASS IN SCHOOL? LEAST FAVORITE? WHY?
"I think my favorite class in school would probably be English, I enjoy the
reading and writing in that class. My least favorite would probably have to be
math because math is kind of hard for me."
WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT 100 DUCK SIZED HORSES OR ONE HORSE SIZED DUCK?
"I don't know, I honestly don't know. I don't know if I can answer that
question, I've never heard that question before. If I had to choose, I guess I'd
go with the horse-sized duck because it might be easier."
DO YOU HAVE A PREGAME RITUAL?
"Yes. I put on my left cleat first, then my right cleat, then I put on my
shoulder pads and before I go on the field I say a prayer. Then when I am on the
field, I try to not step on the white lines."
DO YOU HAVE A NICKNAME?
"They call me Q or Quan."
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEAL?
"I'm a chicken guy, I like chicken a lot, so probably hot wings, fried chicken
or baked chicken, anything with chicken."
WHAT ARE THE FIVE MOST PLAYED SONGS ON YOUR ITUNES?
"I'm going to do artists. I'm going to go with Future, Lil Wayne, Drake, Snoop
Dogg, and then probably Kendrick Lamar."
WHEN DID YOU FIRST REALIZE YOU HAD THE POTENTIAL TO BE A DIVISION I FOOTBALL PLAYER?
"My junior year after I received my UTSA offer. I guess that was the first time
I really thought I could play Division I football."
WHAT'S THE MOST UNIQUE THING A COACH DID OR SAID DURING YOUR RECRUITMENT?
"Coach (Kevin) Curtis said I could eat Wing Stop whenever I wanted to. I am a
big Wing Stop guy and coach Curtis always talked Wing Stop with me."
WHAT WAS THE ONE DETERMING FACTOR IN YOU BECOMING A RED RAIDER?
"When I had gone on my official visit, the coaching staff just felt right. I met
coach (Kliff) Kingsbury and saw how cool he was and saw how he was about taking
care of business, he was respectable to everybody. It just felt right, it felt
like home."
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT DURING THE PROCESS?
"On my official visit to Tech, we went to this restaurant and I had two steaks
and three pieces of cheesecake. We also stayed in this pretty cool hotel and you
could see all of Lubbock and that was pretty cool too."
WHAT WAS THE WORST PART OF THE PROCESS?
"All the phone calls and stuff that I would receive everyday from coaches and
schools even after I committed. I would tell them that I closed my recruitment
and they would still call me and stuff like that."
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT YOUR OFFICIAL VISIT TO TEXAS TECH?
"I got off the plane and coach (Kliff) Kingsbury was waiting for me at his truck
along with coach (Eric) Morris, and I thought that was pretty cool."
WHAT SCHOOL WOULD YOU HAVE CHOSEN IF YOU HADN'T SIGNED WITH THE RED RAIDERS?
"Probably Nebraska."
EXCLUDING TEXAS TECH, WHAT WERE YOUR THREE FAVORITE VISITS DURING THE PROCESS?
"Texas A&M was my first, I enjoyed my visit to Tulane, and then probably UTSA."
WHAT DID YOU EAT DURING YOUR IN-HOME VISIT WITH KLIFF KINGSBURY?
"Nobody ate because Kliff just had a short visit."
HAVE YOU MET ALL THE ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS TO ENROLL AT TEXAS TECH?
"Yes sir."
WHAT POSITION WILL YOU BE PLAYING AT TEXAs TECH?
"Wide receiver, the Z-position on the outside."
DO YOU EXPECT TO REDSHIRT THIS SEASON??
"I don't expect to, nobody has told me anything about it, so I don't expect to.
I have the size and speed to contribute early. Once I get the playbook down and
know the formations, I think I could really help out the team and contribute."
