There are a number of prospects around the state that saw their stock take an uptick during the spring open recruiting period, and Brenham (Texas) outside linebacker and Houston commit Marqez Bimage was certainly among them.

He started picking up a ton of attention from a number of both in-state and out-of-state schools, including Texas Tech. Back in March, Bimage told RedRaiderSports.com that he'd been talking with linebackers coach Zac Spavital and defensive line coach Kevin Patrick for a few months, and he believed then that an offer was on the way from the Red Raiders.

"Coach Patrick was the first coach from Tech that reached out," said Bimage back in March. "He is new to Texas Tech and told me that he sees me playing the rush end position in their defense. We talked about setting up a visit for one of their spring practices, but I'm not sure on the dates right now."

"The Tech coaches have told me they are going to offer this spring," Bimage said. "They want to come and see me during spring practices, but that is what we talked about. I know Tech is a pretty good school and that is an offer I would like to have."

That offer came in April, and now the Brenham prospect is gearing up for a visit to Texas Tech this weekend. Despite being committed to the Cougars, Bimage has noted in the past that he's certainly open to seeing what other schools have to offer, something he'll obviously get to experience in Lubbock this weekend.

EVALUATION

Bimage is a prospect that reminds me a whole lot of Tech signee and now-freshman outside linebacker Jordyn Brooks, both of whom are southeast Texas natives. Like Brooks, Bimage is a big, solid, physical player with a great first step and impressive athleticism from sideline to sideline. He's quick, he delivers a pop off the snap, and he's versatile.

Tech is looking at him as a rush end, a role that fits his play style to a T as an edge rusher. When you take players like this, your team gets better.

WHERE DOES TECH STAND?

Well, he's visiting Lubbock this weekend, so obviously he's very interested in the Red Raiders right now. He's made no bones about the fact that he's a soft commit to Houston right now, and he's totally open to other schools.

A great visit this weekend could really help Tech move in on a prospect that would be a great addition to the roster.
