It's become absolutely imperative that the Red Raiders find some quality offensive linemen in the 2017 class with recent departures and dismissals from the program. Depth is low, so a large class will likely be taken in the trenches. That being said, Red Raider offensive line coach Lee Hays is busy finding prospects to offer and target, and one of his most recent offers went out to San Antonio (Texas) Reagan offensive lineman Derek Kerstetter.

Hays and OC Eric Morris have been keeping tabs on him for several months now, and they decided to pull the trigger a few weeks back by offering. Kerstetter is certainly interested in the Red Raiders, and it looks like he'll take a visit out to Lubbock later on this summer.

"I know that Texas Tech has a really good football program, plus it's Big12 football," Kerstetter said. "I would say that Tech and some of the other schools closer to home are showing the most interest right now. I'm just going to take visits this summer and continue building relationships with the coaches who offer, show interest.

"I'm going to sit down with my parents and schedule my visits for the summertime. I'm definitely taking one to Texas Tech, Kansas, and maybe Minnesota. It depends who else comes in from there, but those are the schools I can think of at the moment."

EVALUATION

You want a road grater? Well, here ya go. Kerstetter has the frame and measurables that Lee Hays likes in his offensive lineman, coupled with an ability to run block, get nasty, and finish through the play with physicality and a motor that fits the program's mentality on the offensive line to a T.

Like Justin Murphy, Zach Adams, and others that Tech has signed on the offensive line in the past, Kerstetter would be a great fit for the Red Raiders.

WHERE DOES TECH STAND?

The Red Raiders have to find quality offensive linemen. Plain and simple. Kerstetter is just that, and he's a great fit for Hays and his unit. Tech is one of the first power five schools to jump in, and I would guess a big number of others will do the same this summer and fall.

It's great to get in on him now, and a visit out to Lubbock this summer could really help the Red Raiders get a foot up here.
