Prospect of the Week

The newest feature to kick off this week for RedRaiderSports.com is Prospect of the Week. Just as the feature title indicates, we'll spotlight one recruiting prospect every week, including a run down of his recruitment so far, what kind of player he's projected to be, and where the Red Raiders sit with him moving forward.

The inaugural prospect of the week? Oologah (Oklahoma) defensive end Brock Martin.

THE DETAILS

School: Oologah, Oklahoma

Height: 6'4"

Weight: 220 Lbs

Offers: Texas Tech, Baylor, and Wyoming

Interest: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Kansas, TCU, SMU, Tulsa, and Colorado State

Martin had a great end his junior campaign, amassing 17 sacks in only 9 games after missing the early portion of the season due to tearing his ACL earlier on in the year. He was extremely productive, impressively so for still essentially being in the recovery process while playing.

A big group of schools took notice, and now it's paying off on the recruiting trail. That includes interest from the Red Raiders, as he visited Lubbock several weeks ago and then picked up an offer from defensive assistant Zac Spavital once the open period began earlier this week.

Martin enjoyed his time in Lubbock, and was excited to pick up his first power five offer from the Red Raiders, as he shared with us several days ago. Tech wasn't the only school to offer this week, either, as Baylor extended one themselves on Wednesday.

As for his plans, Martin has no set timetable, but he will visit Kansas State this weekend and TCU the weekend after.

EVALUATION

Martin is clearly just beginning to tap into his potential, and what he did to end his junior campaign is clear evidence of that. He's growing into a big frame, and he's a natural pass rusher already. He's also a two time state champion wrestler, so he's great with his hands and is excellent at understanding leverage. All that being said, he's a player that could really fit the mold well for the Red Raiders at end as a true pass rusher.

WHERE DOES TECH STAND?

Tech was the first power five school to really show legitimate interest, solidifying that interest as a desire to grab him up by also becoming the first power five school to extend an offer. His mother is a Red Raider fan, and he's already visited, so there's already some rapport there between Tech and Martin.

Tech is in a good position out of the gates here early on in the process, and we'll see where things go once he visits Kansas State, TCU, and hears more from Baylor, who recently offered.
