Texas Tech announced the hire of new special teams coordinator Joe Robinson on Jan. 4th and the new assistant is already on the road recruiting for the Red Raiders. He stopped in El Paso this past week to check on a new 2016 prospect.

Every season there are late bloomers or prospects who fly 'under the radar' and receive several new offers right before National Signing Day. El Paso (Texas) Andress senior athlete Tristan Cooper is a perfect example of this.

Cooper already held offers from UTEP and New Mexico, but new offers from Illinois and Arizona have come through over the past few months. Now the Texas Tech coaches are possibly making a late push to recruit the 6-foot-2, 180-pound athlete.

"Texas Tech and Purdue stopped by recently," Cooper said. "Purdue offered me later that day and some people thought that Tech had offered as well, but the story got all twisted up. Coach (Joe) Robinson from Tech stopped by and said he loved my senior tape.

"He just received the job at Texas Tech, but told me that if he would have been around a month earlier that I would already be a Red Raider. We talked about how their coaches were interested. Coach Robinson told me they will all get together to meet after they get back and discuss new offers."

The Texas Tech coaches are interested enough to visit El Paso again next week.

"I reconnected with Coach Robinson this week," Cooper said. "He told me the coaches are watching my film this weekend and that they are coming back down next week to visit me."

Cooper will officially visit Arizona this weekend and is currently scheduled to officially visit Illinois on Jan. 29.
