college town. Almost everybody there is young. It's really comfortable."
Nelson's mother, a police chief in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, really enjoyed
her visit to Lubbock, too. After weighing everything she'd seen on the visit and
heard from the coaching staff, she gave her son a green light to pledge to Tech.
"She's a Dallas Police chief," he said. "She liked Tech a lot when we went down
there. She analyzed it pretty hard and made sure it was what I wanted and was
best for me. She definitely made sure it was the right decision for me."
Nelson is ecstatic about becoming the latest member of the Red Raider football
team.
"I'm really excited to go to Tech," he said. "It's definitely one of the
colleges that I've been looking at and watching play all the time in the Big 12
on TV. I'll get a good education, and it's not too far from home. It's a great
school."
Nelson committed to Tech over offers from Air Force and Harvard. He was
recruited to the South Plains by offensive line coach Chris Thomsen and graduate
assistant Jeff Howard.
