McKinney believes Texas Tech is close to offering

Weatherford (Texas) defensive tackle Zaccheaus McKinney currently holds seven offers and several other programs are beginning to show interest this spring, including Texas Tech.

"Coach (Joe) Robinson and coach (Kevin) Patrick are the coaches I usually talk with from Texas Tech," McKinney said. "They had sent me a direct message last week asking me to call them, but it was pretty late once I noticed the message and we never reconnected.

"Coach Robinson and coach (Lee) Hays came to watch me practice earlier this spring. He (Robinson) messaged to tell me they are very interested and liked what they saw at my practice. I cannot say whether or not they are going to offer, but that would be awesome if it did happen."

The Red Raiders are not the only Big 12 program showing interest in the Dallas-Fort Worth area standout.

"I also hear from the coaches at TCU and Oklahoma," McKinney said. "I'm camping with TCU on July 15. I'm not sure of any other camps or visits this summer, but those two schools along with Texas Tech and Purdue are the programs showing interest right now.

"The only visit I have taken so far is to SMU, mostly because it's right here in town. I have the camp at TCU, then I'm probably going to wait for official visits in the fall. The two schools I plan on visiting for sure are Oklahoma State and Kansas. I will take others, but those are the only two I know of at this point. I want to take all of my official visits, then make a decision sometime after the football season."

Rated a 5.7 three-star prospect, the 6-foot-5, 280-pounder is listed as the No. 38 overall defensive tackle prospect in the nation. He earned District 4-6A All-District First-Team Defense honors this past season.
