The coaches hosted a handful of 2017 prospects over the weekend and Round Rock (Texas) defensive end James Lynch made the trip to the South Plains with his parents.

"My parents and I were in Lubbock for the whole weekend," Lynch said. "My sister is a sophomore at Texas Tech, so we also spent time with her. She is already recruiting me to join her and become a Red Raider.

"It was my first time in Lubbock and the campus is very nice, it's actually one of the nicest that I have been to. It's surprising because you think there isn't much out there, but it's a very big town and a nice campus."

Lynch is being recruited by new Texas Tech defensive line coach Kevin Patrick and the two have known one another for quite a while now.

"Coach Patrick and I first started talking last year, but he was still coaching at UNT," Lynch said. "Once he arrived at Texas Tech, he started messaging me and the coaching staff sent me a couple of letters. We stayed in touch and Coach Patrick invited me out for a visit to watch their spring practices.

"When we arrived, Coach Patrick gave us a tour of the football facilities, then we met Coach (Kliff) Kingsbury and some of the other defensive coaches. They were asking me about spring ball at Round Rock, when we started and things like that."

After watching the team practice, Lynch spent more one on one time with Coach Patrick.

"Coach Patrick and I went to his office after the practice and talked about their schemes on the defensive line," Lynch said. "He told me that I would play the three technique in their defense. We run a 3-4 defense at Round Rock now and I already play that technique in our defense, both inside and outside on the line.

"We didn't talk about an offer specifically, but Coach Patrick is coming down to watch me at our spring practices later this month. He seemed very interested in me and I feel that I could play there. Texas Tech has started to recruit me a lot more lately and they are close to an offer."

Lynch went on to share his thoughts on the unofficial visit to Texas Tech.

"I have always been interested in Texas Tech," Lynch said. "It's an in-state program that I have followed, but I really like them a lot more after the visit. I really enjoyed the visit and I really like Coach Patrick. The entire coaching staff at Texas Tech seemed to love football and seemed to take care of their guys. It's a very nice place and I really liked it."

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound prospect is still seeking his first scholarship offer, but several other schools are showing interest along with the Red Raiders.

"I would say that Texas Tech, Nevada, TCU, and Baylor are the programs showing the most interest right now," Lynch said. "I have taken visits to TCU, Baylor, SMU, Texas Tech, and I'm visiting Nebraska this weekend. I'm not sure of any other outside of that for now."

Currently an unrated prospect, Lynch earned the District 13-6A All-District Defensive Lineman MVP award this season. He was also named the Defensive Line MVP at the Opening Regional in Dallas last month.
