George Ranch defensive end likes Tech

Still looking for their first defensive commit for 2017, the Texas Tech coaching staff has been casting a wide net and getting in contact with a large number of recruits for this year’s defensive class. One of the names currently on new defensive line coach Kevin Patrick’s radar is Richmond (TX) George Ranch defensive end Toby Ndukwe. Ndukwe has had some contact with Coach Patrick and really likes how Coach Patrick explained how he would be used in their defense.

Ndukwe finished the season with First Team All-District honors following George Ranch’s 16-0 state champion season. Ndukwe was named defensive MVP in the state championship game after posting 7 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks.

WHAT'S NEXT?:

Ndukwe currently has three offers with SMU, Colorado State, and Louisiana Monroe all having offered the 6-foot-3, 225-pound defense end. Ndukwe also claims that Texas State, Oklahoma State, Houston and Indiana are also all in contact. The defensive end prospect has set up a visit to SMU in April which is his only currently scheduled visit at the moment.

Ndukwe does not participate in any other sports and is devoting all of his time to becoming a better defensive end prospect. He’s been spending this offseason working on the little things and is focused on being more physical with his hands, his explosiveness off the snap, and his agility. Most schools are recruiting Ndukwe as an edge rush prospect.

IN HIS WORDS:

“We talked about positions and he asked me if I liked playing the stand up outside linebacker role. Coach Patrick was saying I play very fast off the edge and that I am the type of defensive end that they like and would really like to have in their system. I like to get to the quarterback, and I am very fast on the outside. I’m very physical and use my hands well too.”

“Texas Tech in general, the football team is good and I like the stadium. The way Coach Patrick has been talking to me, he seems real cool and real chill, and I feel like that is how a lot of the other coaches are up there at Tech. I like Coach Patrick, and I am a fan of the school in general.”

OUR REACTION:

Ndukwe is an intriguing prospect due to his speed off the edge as you can tell by the way he was able to get to current Tech quarterback Jett Duffey in the State Championship game. He was a top performer at the Rivals Camp in New Orleans in February and is poised to break out this summer and fall. The defensive end is a name to keep an eye on in Tech’s search for defensive help especially since he has already been in contact with Coach Patrick.
