Fields ready for Lubbock, solid with Texas Tech

Many of Tech’s 2016 commits could make the case for early playing time the minute they step on campus. After the play of the defensive back unit last year, current DB commit DaMarcus Fields could be one of those prospects who could play immediately if they adjust to the college game quickly. Even with a change at position coach, Fields is still solid to Tech and is ready to get to Lubbock and make his mark.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Fields is one of the more athletic commits Tech has at the moment, as he was an All-District safety this past season, currently plays small forward for his Taylor squad, and is one of the fastest track stars in the state participating in the 100 meter, 400 meter, and relay races clocking in at a 10.5 100 last year. He also recently received an offer from Texas A&M for track. Between track and basketball, the three-star prospect will also be working on his cornerback technique as he mostly played safety during high school. The 6-foot-1 Fields is excited to get to Lubbock on the 22nd.

IN HIS WORDS

“Anybody can play right away if they work hard. They have talked to me about it and have said that our DBs were not how we wanted them this year, and I can help do something about that. There is a lot that goes into it, but if I work, I will play. I feel like the secondary needs some tacklers, they need some guys to make plays, and I will work hard to be able to step into that role.”

OUR REACTION

Fields flew under the radar this fall after impressing at Tech's New Braunfels satellite camp last June. The cornerback has been all Red Raiders ever since, and the coaching staff will finally be able to show him around campus this weekend. -Will McKay
