Dallas wide receiver likes Texas Tech

Still looking for their first wide receiver commit for the 2017 class, wide receivers coach Emmett Jones is casting a wide net searching for and getting into contact with a lot of wide receivers throughout the state. A new name to keep an eye on for the wide receiver search is Garland (TX) Lakeview Centennial wide receiver Shamond Greenwood. Jones and Greenwood have been in constant contact over the past few weeks and Jones plans to visit the wide receiver in the spring and has invited Greenwood to the spring game on April 16.

Greenwood caught 59 passes for 821 yards and nine touchdowns last season while on his way to Second Team All-District honors.

WHAT'S NEXT?:

Greenwood is a fast-rising prospect having picked up five offers in the past two weeks. Kansas, Tulane, New Mexico, Nevada, and San Diego State have all pulled the trigger and offered the 6-foot-3, 203-pound receiver. Greenwood expects many coaches to come out and see him play when the dead period ends on April 15 and is contact with various other schools but says TCU and Texas Tech are sticking out to him the most right now due to their offenses.

He has visits scheduled to Kansas on April 9 and could take Coach Jones up on his offer to visit for the spring game in Lubbock. During the offseason Greenwood runs the 4x100, 4x200, and the 4x400 relays for his high school.

IN HIS WORDS:

“We just talk a lot about what type of receiver I am and what type of receiver they want at Tech. He wants big, physical receivers, with speed and can make guys miss in the open. He says he feels like I am a prospect who can bring all those things to the table.”

“I feel like I am the type of receiver Coach Jones would want and could fit right into the program. I can make plays at receiver, but I am also a good blocker. Most receivers don’t really like to block if the ball is not in their hands, but I am always willing to go make a block to spring a big play.”

OUR REACTION:

Coach Jones wants size and physicality in his outside receiving corps and Greenwood fits the bill in that regard. A lot of schools are after the prospect and we will see how things stand with Greenwood and Tech once the open period starts and Jones either visits Greenwood at Garland or Greenwood makes a trip to Lubbock.
