Bernard looking to visit this spring

La Porte (Texas) outside linebacker Terrel Bernard is one of three total 2017 offers at the linebacker position for the Red Raiders. The Texas Tech coaches offered Bernard last May and defensive assistant Zac Spavital has been building a relationship with the standout linebacker ever since.

"Coach Spavital from Tech, he's the coach that I'm talking with the most," Bernard said. "We talk now and then, and we have a very solid relationship. He likes how I play the game, my effort, and tells me that he can see my love for the game.

"We have talked about the defense at Texas Tech and they are trying to rebuild the defense. Coach Spavital and I talked about some of the changes they have made, plus some of the talent they are bringing in with their last signing class. He feels their defense is going to take off pretty soon."

Bernard now holds eight offers from programs across the country, including newer offers from Kansas, Northwestern, Washington, and Dartmouth. He has already taken a visit to SMU this off-season and is planning to visit a handful of programs in March.

"I recently visited SMU for a junior day, and I'm also setup to visit Baylor on March 18th for their Friday Night Lights event," Bernard said. "Coach Spavital and I talked about setting up a visit to Texas Tech as well. I'm going to try and visit sometime this spring to watch one of their practices.

"The only other visit I'm working on is getting up to Northwestern, but I'm still not sure about the date. Other than that, I have the Opening regional camp in Houston later this spring."

Rated a 5.5 three-star prospect, Bernard is the No. 97 overall prospect on the Rivals.com Texas Postseason Top 100 for the 2017 recruiting class.
