Texas Tech received a Signing Day present when Clear Lake (TX) defensive end/outside linebacker Quinton Williams committed to the Red Raiders. Williams, who took his official visit to campus Feb. 1-3, had not been in contact with the coaching staff for very long but loves what he's seen so far, which helped him with his decision.

"My relationship with the coaches is great. On the official visit they treated me just like I'm their son, and the thing is I didn't even meet most of them until this weekend. It's truly a blessing. Coach Randolph has been all in with me since we met 2 weeks ago and I love him for it. He's gonna make sure I do what I have to do to graduate. And coach Wells, both of them actually, they just showed me love. The strength and conditioning coaches, they were the same way. All of the coaches up there just showed me love and opened their arms to me. It was just truly a blessing to come up there and be in that type of environment."

Williams had a fun weekend getting to meet the team, hang out with his host Adrian Frye and seeing the school, he said.

"My host was Frye, and this weekend we toured the school, I got introduced to some of the players on the team like Riko (Jeffers), Q (Quincy Addison), Ta'Zhawn (Henry) and just a bunch of other guys and we really just got to know each other and just had bro time. You know, it was just a fun weekend."

In high school Williams played all over, lining up at defensive end, linebacker, wide receiver and on special teams on any given play. At Texas Tech, Quinton will be playing a hybrid defensive end/linebacker role, and he's going to attack the passer, he said.

"They're recruiting me as a two-way outside linebacker – defensive end type of player. I did some of that in high school and that's what I like doing is getting after the quarterback. The coaches say they really like my effort, and that no matter what is going on in the game I give 100 percent on each snap."

The 6-foot-6, 230 pound blitzing defender has played basketball most of his life, and just started playing football at Clear Lake as a junior. In 10 games as a senior, Williams racked up 58 tackles, seven for loss and one sack and 160-receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Williams chose Texas Tech over a whole host of JUCO's, along with D1 programs Arkansas State and UMass.
