Notebook: Uluave down to three
Here's the latest on the Texas Tech and Big 12 recruiting scene from RedRaiderSports.com analyst Matt Clare.
HAWAIIAN OL DOWN TO THREE
The 6-foot-5, 305-pound three-star prospect is the cousin of current Texas Tech defensive tackle commit Breiden Fehoko and has mentioned having a great relationship with Tech co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Mike Smith as one of the main reasons why the Red Raiders remain high on his list.
With four commitments along the offensive line for 2015 already, Texas Tech is looking to add one more prospect from the high school ranks to play on the inside at guard or center.
Uluave does list the Bruins as a favorite and has mentioned UCLA as a "dream school" in previous interviews, but the Red Raiders should have an opportunity to host the standout lineman for an official visit later this fall.
NEW DT IN MIX FOR 2015?Houston (Texas) Cy-Fair defensive tackle Ross Donelly committed to the Rice Owls after a junior day visit in mid-March, but decided to re-open his recruitment in late July.
While the Owls are still in consideration, the standout prospect recently named Stanford and Ole Miss as the two programs currently leading in his recruitment.
The 6-foot-2, 315-pound defensive tackle mentioned that Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech have recently started to show significant interest.
NEW BASKETBALL OFFERLithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove 2016 point guard Alterique Gilbert received an offer from Tubby Smith and the Texas Tech men's basketball program this past Friday.
Gilbert holds offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Miami, Texas A&M, Wake Forest and now Texas Tech.
JUNIOR TO WATCHOT Dixie Wooten, Houston (Texas) Lamar - Wooten is very much an imposing force along the offensive line at 6-foot-5, 322-pounds.
Wooten has yet to receive his first offer, but the standout junior prospect is already receiving interest from several top programs around the country, including Texas Tech.
"I talked with the offensive line coach (Lee) Hays," Wooten said. "He watched my highlights from our first game against Brenham this past week. Coach Hays really liked my footwork, technique, size and mentioned that he was impressed with my game overall."
The standout junior is hearing the most from Texas, TCU and Mississippi State currently. Some of the other programs already showing interest include Baylor, LSU, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Oregon and Arkansas.
AROUND THE BIG 12Baylor picked up commit No. 12 for its 2015 class last week when Rowlett (Texas) kicker Drew Galitz flipped from Miami to the Bears. The three-star is ranked as the No. 2 kicker in the nation.
Oklahoma recently picked up commit No. 11 for 2015 when San Ramon Valley (California) offensive tackle Dru Samia chose the Sooners over UCLA and several other quality offers, including Texas Tech.
McKinney North (Texas) safety Bryce Balous recaps his official visit to Kansas State over the weekend.
Galena Park (Texas) North Shore three-star cornerback Darius Mouton is still receiving significant interest from Texas Tech and Minnesota.
