Swain picks Ducks

Oregon scored a commitment at the Semper Fidelis Bowl on Sunday when Olathe (Kan.) Kansas North linebacker Jimmie Swain chose the Ducks making his announcement on national television.

"It has been a great process for me," said Swain in the second quarter of the game. "I have had a really good family and everybody helping me out. For the next four years I will be playing at the University of Oregon."

In the end his recent visit from the Oregon coaches may have sealed the deal.

"Seeing how all the coaches interacted with my mom," said Swain of his in-home viist. "She likes to think that she is not a big influence on my recruiting but she really was one of the reasons I decided to go to Oregon."

Swain is ranked as the No. 5 player in the State of Kansas. He chose the Ducks over his other finalists Arkansas, Michigan State, and Texas A&M. His official visit to Eugene was the weekend of the Civil War, along with OL Haniteli Lousi and DL Jalen Jelks both fellow Oregon commits.

Swain is the first linebacker to commit to this Duck class and may the last. Linebacker coach Don Pellum's unit has only one slot opening this year with the graduation of Boseko Lokombo.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound athlete was the 17th player to commit to Oregon's Class of 2014. The pledge moved the Ducks from No. 28 to No. 20 in the team rankings.

Check back with Duck Sports Authority first thing Monday morning as we take an in-depth look at the Swain commitment's impact on Oregon recruiting.
