Legacy DT Frederick Jones is commit No. 21 for FSU

Miami Central defensive tackle Frederick Jones knew what he was looking for when he returned to the Jimbo Fisher camp for the second straight year - an FSU offer.

The younger Jones had a lot to prove last week and he certainly did. He made such an impact that he got the coveted offer he was waiting for.

"When I was going to the camp I knew FSU was interested in me so I had to get that offer and I got it," he said. "That's always been my dream school since I was a young kid, so I knew I was going to commit there."

The decision was meaningful for Jones considering he is a double legacy to the football program. His father is former inside linebacker Fred Jones and his uncle is Marvin "Shade Tree" Jones, another FSU great at linebacker.

"My family was very proud about me committing to FSU. It feels great to keep it going," said Jones.

Last year, Jones attended the Fisher camp at 6-foot-2 and 282 pounds. But this time around, he trimmed his body down to 270 pounds. He worked closely with defensive tackle coach Odell Haggins throughout the two-days he was at the camp.

"Coach Haggins told me I got a lot better with using my hands and now just always use my power. So I utilized my quickness a lot of the time at the camp," Jones said. "Coach Haggins told me I've gotten a lot better from last year's camp and he liked what he was seeing."

Like several Seminole commitments, Jones is a dual-sport star. He is one of the best shot putters in the country. In fact, Jones told Warchant.com he is ranked in the top five in the nation and has won back to back state titles.

Jones played at Miami's Monsignor Pace last season. He is commitment No. 21 for Florida State and the second defensive tackle.
