Murphy can't believe he's a Red Raider

The Red Raiders officially added their third offensive lineman to the 2014 class on Monday, as Belton (Texas) offensive tackle Justin Murphy decided it was time to pull the trigger.

The six-foot-eight, 276 pounder was absolutely ecstatic to become the newest member of the Texas Tech football family, and he had a hard time describing his level of elation.

"I can't even put it into words right now. my brother is about to go to Texas Tech this next year, so I'm going to have my family out there. It's just such a great feeling. I love the offense, and I like where they're going with it in the future. The feeling is just, I can't describe them."

Murphy has known that he wanted to be a Red Raider for a few weeks now, but he just needed to double check and make sure that the timing was right to make a commitment. After speaking with the Tech coaching staff and several members of his family, the Belton native decided that today was the day.

"I've known in my heart that I've wanted to commit for a long time. Texas Tech is where I want to be as an offensive lineman. It's crazy. I wanted to commit because I know there are a limited number of spots, and I know that's where I want to be. I just had to talk it over. I talked to the coaches, my mom, my dad, my grandparents, and I guess that today is as good of a day as any."

The tall tackle isn't the only one excited, as the Tech coaching staff is happy to add another piece to the depth on the offensive line.

"I actually called Coach Morris. When I told him, he seemed pretty excited. He actually went out and talked to Coach Kingsbury a little bit, and it's crazy. It seems like they're all pretty excited."

As far as expectations, Murphy knows that it will be hard to come in and play right away, but he's honestly just happy to have a chance to play in a high powered, Big 12 offense.

"I want to come in there, and I'm not expecting to start, I mean to start as a true freshman, that would be incredible, but to come in there as one of the top passing offenses in the nation, I mean, I don't know what to say. It's crazy."

All-in-all, Murphy just can't describe how happy he is to be a Red Raider. He's looking forward to meeting many of his future teammates during his future visits to Lubbock, and he can't wait to get things started.

"I'm stoked to get out there. I can't wait to get to know everyone, get to know all the players that I'll be playing with. Guns up."

Murphy also holds offers from Houston, SMU, Rice, North Texas, and New Mexico among others.
