Hirschfeld selects Wisconsin
New head coach Gary Andersen added a big piece to his first full recruiting class at Wisconsin on Wednesday when in-state defensive end Billy Hirschfeld decided to pull the trigger and commit to the Badgers.
Hirschfeld, a 6-foot-6, 270-pound prospect from Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wis., told BadgerBlitz.com about his commitment on Wednesday afternoon.
"I just felt like it was the right decision," Hirschfeld told BadgerBlitz.com. "I felt like I didn't have to go on any more visits or anything.
"I felt that Wisconsin is the right school for me."
Hirschfeld is the fifth member of Wisconsin's 2014 recruiting class, and Rivals.com ranked him as the 14th-best defensive end in the country.
All five members of Wisconsin's class are in-state prospects, and Hirschfeld is the third defensive lineman to commit to the Badgers, following Conor Sheehy and Craig Evans. Offensive lineman George Panos (Hirschfeld's prep teammate) and Jaden Gault have also pledge to UW.
"I told coach Andersen that I committed," Hirschfeld said. "He just said he was fired up and he can't wait to get me up there."
Hirschfeld also held scholarship offers from Illinois, Michigan State, Nebraska and Pittsburgh, among others.
"It feels great to have made this decision," Hirschfeld said. "I have so much relief from it and I feel great for making my decision on where I want to go.
