OU commit flips to Tulsa
Tulsa (Okla.) Union's Dalton Rodriguez had been committed to Oklahoma since May, but a change of heart has led him to switch his pledge to Tulsa.
"Just decommited from OU and now I'm going to TU," he announced on Twitter just before noon. "It was a decision that was best for me!"
Rodriguez told InsideTulsaSports.com that his future college position and reuniting with his former position coach from high school played a role in his decision.
"I get to play defense," he explained. "And I'll get to be coached by Adam (Blankenship)."
The 6-foot-6, 260-pound prospect is rated as the No. 6 overall player in Oklahoma and the nation's No. 57 offensive tackle by Rivals.com, so there is no question that this is a big addition to Tulsa's recruiting class.
"They were very excited," he said of the Tulsa coaches' reaction to his announcement.
Rodriguez helped Union to another successful season, as he racked up 85 tackles and nine sacks. The Redskins finished 10-3, losing in the state semifinals.
Rodriguez also had scholarship offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Oregon State and Texas Tech. He is the 17th commitment for Tulsa in the 2013 class and the second in two days to switch their commitment from a Big 12 school. On Wednesday, Dallas Skyline defensive back Will Barrow, a former Texas Tech commit, gave a verbal pledge to the Golden Hurricane.
Tulsa now has commitments from five of the Top 20 prospects in the Sooner State according to Rivals.com, and two of the top six.
