6'2 305 DT Meti Taliauli commits to BYU at camp
Merrill Taliauli , who goes by Meti, does a good job of plugging the middle as a DT for East High in Salt Lake City, UT. BYU is in a unique position with 6 senior defensive linemen. Eathyn Manumaleuna, Romney Fuga, Russell Tialavea, Ian Dulan, Simote Vea and Jordan Richardson will all not be here next year. This makes things nice for this year with such depth and experience; howeve,r next year will require some immediate contribution. At 6'2 305 lbs
Meti could very well be that guy. Manumaleuna was that guy when he was a freshman and if it was not for his giant paw BYU probably would have lost the bowl game against UCLA. Instead, BYU came home with a 17-16 win because of Manumaleuna blocking a field goal to end the game.
Meti, who held an offer from Utah State, grew up a BYU fan. So when the coaches pulled him to the office and talked to him about playing for BYU he was ready to commit. "I grew up a fan of BYU and I always looked up to all the players and coaches," said Meti.
There definitely is a lot to be excited about when you're a high school athlete and one of the top teams in college football tells you that they want you to play for them and are willing to give you a full ride scholarship. But one thing that gets Meti excited is the contract with ESPN."That there's going to be millions of people watching BYU play, that just gets to me. And that BYU has it's own TV program that goes around the world and internationally."
Coach Kaufusi has definitely been working hard on getting that D line replenished for the coming years with commits from Ma'ataua Brown, JonRyheem Peoples who could be moved to offense, and now Meti Taliauli. My guess is Coach Kaufusi will want to land one more.
