McCord chooses Miami during Army Bowl
SAN ANTONIO - Knowing his announcement was looming, Tampa (Fla.) Jefferson four-star defensive end Tyriq McCord still came the U.S. Army All-American Bowl without a decision in mind.
Throughout the course of his week in San Antonio, however, McCord's college choice took shape and the 6-3, 222-pound prospect announced on Saturday he was taking his talents across state to play for Al Golden and the Miami Hurricanes.
McCord chose Miami out of a final group that also included Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and USC. He had made official visits to three of those schools and was planning future trips to USC and TCU before making his commitment during the telecast of Saturday's Army Bowl.
As recently as Wednesday, McCord was still planning to take at least one of his planned official visits before signing his letter of intent next month. McCord knew what he was looking for out of this recruiting process, however, and feels he found it at Miami.
McCord is the No. 74 prospect nationally and the No. 7 weakside defensive end in the 2012 class. He is the third top 20 prospect in the state of Florida to commit to the Hurricanes, joining Miami Norland running back Randy Johnson (No. 8) and Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas defensive end Jelani Hamilton.
