David McNabb,Kelly visited Coppell on the first day are allowed to make face-to-face contact and Kelly assured McDaniel he was looking for the all-purpose player to come to Notre Dame as a running back and didn't have plans to switch him to a slot back or defensive back _ positions other schools had discussed.

"Coach Kelly said he wanted to look Cam in the eyes and tell him he wants him as a running back," Cam's father Danny McDaniel said. "They shook hands and hugged. Notre Dame is a great place for Cam to play and go to school."
Coppell (13-0) plays Euless Trinity (13-0) in the Class 5A Division I Region II final at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Southlake Carroll's Dragon Stadium.
Theoldcoach.com was the first to report Nov. 15 that Notre Dame's Kelly and outside linebackers coach Kerry Cooks, who recruits Texas, were on the verge of making an official offer. McDaniel has rushed for 1,859 yards and 31 touchdowns so far this season.
McDaniel on verge of offer from Notre Dame (Nov.15).
McDaniel chose Notre Dame over offers from Air Force, Cincinnati, Colorado, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Stanford, Texas Tech and Tulsa, among others.
The 5-foot-11, 192-pound prospect had taken recent official visits to Minnesota and Iowa State.
McDaniel isn't quite the same but very similar to Rex Burkhead story from Plano a couple years ago. Texas offered Burkhead early as DB, but Burkhead committed to Nebraska who said he'd be RB.
Texas later came back with RB offer after Burkhead looked awesome in state playoffs, just as McDaniel is showing against top competition he can play running back.
McDaniel and Burkhead are not the same style. Burkhead has power and straight head speed and a great burst.
Cam won't get as heavy as Burkhead but he is quicker _ with a 3.9 shuttle time _ and and same great instincts, vision and drive as an elusive runner with unbelievable balance.
Coppell coach compares McDaniel to a "gymnast. One of McDanile's best friends is UT commit Jaxon Shipley and many believe Texas will regret not offering McDaniel as an all-purpose back.
McDaniel originally arrived in Coppell as Bob Shipley was named head coach four years ago from Burnet and McDaniel's father, Danny, was a first-year assistant on Shipley's staff.
