Florida receiver keeps tabs on CSU

Saint Cloud (Fla.) wide receiver James Boone has done well to keep up with the goings on of the Colorado State football team. The 6-foot, 170-pound wideout received text message updates during the Rocky Mountain Showdown, got some updates on the Brigham Young game and has planned to watch the Rams' game with Idaho last weekend.

"I have been following them pretty good," Boone said. "I know they were 3-0 going into the BYU game."

Boone's interest in the Rams, the feeling is mutual. Colorado State is one of two schools to offer Boone a scholarship along with Western Kentucky. Colorado State offensive line coach Pat Meyer has been Boone's recruiting contact from Fort Collins and the two seem to have a good relationship.

"We talk about the family setting there and the football games and how I am doing with the team and how I am looking to improve," Boone said of his conversation with Meyer. "He is a nice guy, I really like him. When he came down in the spring - because they were the first school to offer me - he came off as a great person and I really liked him lot.

"I know I am going to take a trip to Colorado State pretty soon, either this month or early November," Boone added.

While Colorado State and Western Kentucky are the first two schools to offer Boone, he doesn't believe they will be the last. This weekend he is planning on putting together his senior highlight film and sending that off to colleges around the country. He believes that will up the interest level from several coaches.

"I should be receiving one (a scholarship offer) from middle Tennessee State pretty soon," Boone said. "I talk to their coach every week and FAU, they are very interested but they are limited in their options because they are only signing one receiver. I just went to Florida State last weekend and they called yesterday for their transcripts."

This season Boone's numbers are a little down (12 catches for 160 yards and four touchdowns), but he is said he has improved as a player in a couple different ways and understands where he needs to improve as a receiver.

"Coaches say I have great hands and I am explosive off the ball," Boone said. "My route running isn't at perfection. I need to practice on that a little more."
