Cornerback excited about offer from Army

It was on Sunday that Madisonville (KY) Madisonville North Hopkins cornerback Martinez Davis received a call from safeties coach Chris Smeland to update Davis on his recruiting status with the Black Knights. "He let me know that he was in a coaches' meeting and I'm one of their top recruits," shared the 5-foot-10, 172 pound prospect. "He's looking forward to getting me there for a visit and he also said that he proud of my selection to the O-D (Offense-Defense) All-American Bowl.

That was Sunday, but Wednesday turned out to be a day that Davis will never forget. "I just received my Army offer this morning," declared the elated cornerback, when he spoke to yesterday. "I saw my phone ring and it was Coach Coaxum (cornerbacks) … he told me that he just got out of the defensive meeting and he said he would like to offer me a full ride to play football at Army and attend West Point.

I told Coach Coaxum I was so exciting and that I won't let him down … man, I'm so excited right now. He talked to me about the commitment to Army football, graduating with a West Point degree and he talked about the others schools will be trying to knock down the door, but tell them that I'm a Black Knight.

Once he called, I went downstairs and told my parents and they are so proud right now."

Davis indicated that he will be making his official to Army on October 10th for the Vanderbilt game. Joining Davis on this list of visitors will be a collection of talented Army prospects, such as 3-star running back Keith McBride, linebackers Ryan McCollum and Brad Bars.

Although Davis did not commit to the Black Knights, he made it clear that they are number one on his list and the team to beat for his talents.

Davis has quality speed and is very athletic. He has 4.56 forty to go with his growing frame, runs a 100M @ 11.4, has a 29.5 vertical, and has a max bench of 275 pounds.

This past season at Madisonville North Hopkins, Davis had 46 tackles, 2 interceptions and one for a touchdown, as North Hopkins finished the season at 7-4 will continue to follow Davis recruiting process throughout the summer and into his senior season.
