Louisiana DT emerging with offers

Year after year, the state of Louisiana always seems to produce high-class defensive line talent. Early in the recruiting cycle for the class of 2010, the elite defensive linemen were yet to emerge but as the spring evaluation period continues more names are emerging and one of those names is Damion Jacobs out of Houma (La.) H.L. Bourgeois.

As a junior, Jacobs finished the year with over 90 tackles and eight sacks while earning honorable mention all-state honors. After flying a little bit under the radar throughout the fall and winter, Jacobs has now picked up three new scholarship offers.

"I've gotten three offers from Tulsa, Tulane and Florida International," Jacobs said. "I had a lot of schools that came through and visited these past three weeks: Oregon, Minnesota, Alabama, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State and more. I was getting a little bit of attention during the fall but it's been really picking up in the spring."

At 6-foot-3, 300 pounds, Jacobs has been a starter since his sophomore season. He is very familiar with two of his three offers and it sounds like more offers could be coming before the spring is up.

"I know Tulsa is real big on me and Tulane," he said. "Arkansas came through this past week and they had a lot of interest in me. The coach from Oregon, he likes my game. I have been to Tulane two years ago to their spring game and I got to visit Tulsa to a camp."

Jacobs knows for sure that he will be taking in the Florida campus this summer as well as several more camps.

"I will be visiting a lot more but right off the top of my head there are so many dates to remember."

Despite being blessed with a big frame and athleticism, Jacobs credits his mentality and tenacity as two of his strongest traits on the field.

"I'm a real strong, hard-nosed player and I play on the other side of the ball. I play in the other team's backfield, that's where I play at. I take advantage of any advantage I have."
