Riggs is looking for answers
The Florida contingent for this year's Ohio State spring game may not be as large as in years past but there is going to be no lack of talent coming up north to check out the Buckeyes. Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas cornerback Cody Riggs will be in attendance and the 5-foot-9, 156-pounder already has a start-studded offer list and hopes to leave Columbus (Ohio) knowing where he stands with the Buckeyes.
Riggs will be joining a pair of teammates on the trip with current signee Duron Carter and five-star 2010 recruit Lamarcus Joyner coming along and the three have been looking forward to checking things out.
"We have just been talking about the trip and having fun (while up there)," Riggs said.
The Buckeyes have also offered Brandon Linder out of St. Thomas Aquinas as well and the big lineman had planned on joining his teammates for the trip but will be unable to head North this weekend.
Riggs spent last weekend in South Bend (Ind.) to check out the Fighting Irish and the bar was set very high for the South Florida cornerback. After leaving Notre Dame Riggs announced that the Irish were his leader but that he wanted to still check out the Buckeyes. What was it that pushed Notre Dame to the top of the pack for Riggs?
"The stadium was really nice," Riggs said. "So were all of the facilities and to see all of the Heisman Trophies sitting around everywhere, you don't see that at a lot of places. And I got along with the coaching staff very well so I enjoyed it a lot."
Riggs is hoping to learn a lot during his visit to Ohio State, most importantly where his recruitment stands with the Buckeyes. The Floridian has double-digit offers but also knows that his coach is still holding a pair of offers that Riggs is unaware of who they are from. There has been a wide belief that one of them is from Ohio State but Riggs wants to get that question answered while in Columbus. And if that offer is not waiting for him back home he would like to leave Ohio with an offer in hand.
"I am really going up there to see how interested they are in me," Riggs said.
Cody already knows plenty about the Ohio State program just from hanging around Duron and his father, Cris Carter, but as long as the Buckeyes are interested in him there are still a few things that he would like to look into.
"I want to look at the coaching style and if I can fit in with the coaches," Riggs said. "I already know the history of Ohio State as far as putting players in the NFL."
Many questions will be answered after the Saturday spring game and Riggs is hopeful that he will know just where he stands with the Buckeyes as he heads back to Florida.
