Commitment 101: Justin Todd

MORE: Todd commits to UTSA

UTSA caused a stir in Conference USA recruiting this week by flipping the former FIU commit Justin Todd to the Roadrunners before even getting him on campus. It was a big win for UTSA and it shows that UTSA cornerbacks coach Jeff Popovich still has some sway in Florida recruiting, as he and defensive coordinator Neal Neathery visited Todd on Thursday. Todd unofficially committed soon after and then talked to Larry Coker on Friday afternoon to make it official.

Skill set:

Justin Todd is a 6-foot-1, 220-pound outside linebacker from Oakleaf High School in Orange Park, Fla. That is being recruited as a candidate for the Dawg safety position that UTSA uses in its 4-2-5 defense. Watching him on film, Todd appears to be more linebacker than safety at this point with most of his highlights coming against the run, rushing the passer or on special teams. UTSA recruited a player with a similar highlight package in 2013 and that guy turned out to be freshman contributor Michael Egwuagu.
