Will Coleman Feels Hail State Bond with Former Teammate

A couple of weeks ago, MSU got some big news out of Texas with the decision of three-star defensive end William Coleman to play for the Bulldogs next season. A bit of a surprise to some, Coleman felt that it was a perfect fit for him for the next two years because of one current player's perspective. The Tyler Junior College star defender had a former teammate that told him all about life in Starkville.

"I had a good inside source for Mississippi State in Jeremey Chappelle the former TJCC standout receiver who transferred from here in the spring," Coleman said. "He really helped me in my decision because he came here from the same part of town where I grew up and came to JC and was a standout athlete, went there and had instant success at MSU in the spring when he got there. He just said it's a good environment for a JUCO player right off the bat and the coaches give equal opportunity and just that it's a great program."

Chappelle was more than just a teammate to Coleman in Junior College he was a mentor. The amount of respect that Coleman had for the elder Chappelle made the decision even more solidified.

"When I first came here he was an older guy so I learned a lot from him because he was a motivator. He always told me that he saw something in me and that I just needed to keep working hard," Coleman said of the Bulldog receiver. "As a young athlete, I kind of look up to him as a motivator and it all just kind of grew on me. I wouldn't mind playing with him for another year in college."

Another factor in his recruitment was the career that defensive line coach David Turner has put together in developing talent up front. As a player only three years into his defensive line career, that's big for his future.

"I know in all reality, from a JUCO standpoint, you don't have a whole lot of time so you have to go somewhere that's going to give you an opportunity to develop your skills and your assets. I think Coach Turner has a track record where he has produced so it's a great fit for me to play on that line for the next two years."
