BYU could add another commit from the state of Oregon in Johnny Ragin

Each coach at BYU has their own territory to manage where they are in charge of recruiting for that area. Coach Poppinga, who is handling the northwest states, is seeing the fruits of his labors.

Last week BYU had QB Billy Green from Washington. Before that they had Brayden Kearsley and Dallin Leavitt from Oregon commit to the Cougars. Earlier today we found out that WR Tanner Shipley from Oregon committed.

Well, Coach Poppinga possibly might get another one. RB/OLB Johnny Ragin is also considering the Cougars. Ragin, who is 6'3, 210 lbs runs a 4.59 40, has a max bench of 310 lbs and max squat of 500 lbs. What is more impressive is that he has a 4.0 GPA.

Ragin is teammates with commit Tanner Shipley so Coach Poppinga just got a little help from someone else who can help lure Johnny to Provo. One other benefit for Coach Poppinga and the Cougars is BYU's Marriott School of Business. Ragin, who wants to graduate in Business Management and Public Relations and manage his own clothing line, is impressed from what he has seen and heard.

"BYU's pretty amazing. They have a great program going there, and their business program is second to none. I believe it is second in the nation. So it's a very impressive school academically and athletically." said Ragin.

Right now Ragin holds offers from BYU and Portland State. He has been kind of a late bloomer in getting the recognition and now feels he is close to getting offers from Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State and UCLA. He would like to make his choice by the beginning or middle of his last season at Wilsonville High.

With the attention he is getting from other schools, he has great things to say about BYU. He shares with CougarNation what he likes about BYU since visiting the campus.

"The core values that Coach Mendenhall works to instill in his players. It's just feels like a great family setting, a great team, a very close knit team. And their minimum goal is top 25 in the BSC and their maximum is a National Championship. So they have a great foundation and know what they want to get."

With the help that Coach Poppinga will get from Tanner Shipley in helping recruit Johnny to BYU, he will also hear from the others in the northwest as they all seem to be friends.

"Yeah we speak a lot, him [Brayden Kearsley] and Dallin, Tanner as well as Billy Green we are really good friends. We see each other at football events a lot and we hang out."
