Red Oak tight end adds another offer

Red Oak tight end Jeremiah Gaines just added another offer to his list.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder had already received offers from TCU and UNT, but officially added SMU to his list Wednesday.

Red Oak is about 20 miles south of Dallas, but Gaines said where the school is won't affect his decision too much.

"I'm sure location has something to do with the offers I'm getting," Gaines said. "But if the best fit is for to go outside the area, I would do it."

Gaines has already visited TCU and thought Fort Worth really spoke to him.

"I really like it. I'm a small town guy and Fort Worth isn't too small, but it's not too big either," Gaines said.

The junior, who had 32 catches for 738 yards and seven touchdowns last season, will visit UNT next week during Red Oak's spring break and SMU on March 24.

Gaines is also the top player on the Hawks' basketball team and that is another similarity he has to his favorite NFL player, New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, who was a stand out baller at the University of Miami.

"He's my favorite receiver and he plays for my favorite team," Gaines said. "I don't necessarily pattern myself after him, but I do like to line up in the slot like he does sometimes."

Unfortunately, he may not get the chance to do that as much this year because the Hawks plan on using him more as a true tight end this season as compared to wide receiver.

And that's not bothering him at all because he's played everywhere in just his three years of high school ball. He played linebacker and some running back as a freshman.

Texas A&M hasn't offered him yet, but the Aggies are talking to him about a move to linebacker. But Gaines did say he would rather stay on the offensive side of the ball a the next level.

"It's not all because the offense gets more glory, but ever since I was younger, I've just wanted to play tight end," Gaines said.
