Deacs in play for Blackmon

Lonnie Galloway and Steve Russ journeyed to Eastside High School in Covington, GA Friday to see Dante Blackmon.

The cornerback (Rated as a three-star recruit by de-committed from Indiana Tuesday and said Wake Forest is his leader. Blackmon plans to make an official visit to Winston-Salem and to entertain the Wake Forest coaches for an in-home visit in January.

"Coach Galloway told me Coach Russ likes me 100-percent, he said he likes me a lot," Blackmon said. "I don't know if they offered yet. I don't know if it's official yet, but Coach Galloway told me he wants me up there at Wake, so I'm really looking forward to them offering."

Appalachian State and Marshall along with Wake are the main schools in the mix for Blackmon. He added that Western Kentucky came to see him, and Buffalo made a scholarship offer. However, Blackmon's interest in the Bulls is low.

Blackmon said he is no longer considering the Hoosiers.

"I wasn't feeling like I was recruited," Blackmon said. "It felt like I wasn't really their main focus. I didn't get calls from coaches, and when I did get calls I didn't have the chemistry between the coaches and I. I'm trying to go to a program that will win some ballgames with me, and Indiana didn't play too well this year and they haven't played too well in a while."

Blackmon is confident in his ability to contribute on defense for a team at the collegiate level. Eastside struggled to a 5-5 record, but Blackmon managed to have a successful season.

He displayed sprinter speed Monday when he was timed at a 4.39 and a 4.36 in the 40. Blackmon caught 50 passes for 700 yards and four touchdowns, recorded 28 tackles and made three interceptions. The Covington product has 79 receptions for 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions for his prep career, which earned him an invitation to the Georgia All-Star Senior Bowl.

"I'm still seeing how the recruiting goes," Blackmon said. "A lot of schools are coming in and out asking to see me, talking to me. It's getting real heavy right now."

Blackmon may be entertaining other offers, but those schools will have to overcome the Galloway factor.

"Oh man Coach Galloway is real cool," Blackmon said. "Me and him sit back and talk. We joke around and everything. We have a good chemistry. Me and Coach Galloway we're real cool. Coach Galloway and me [are] always talking about grades, and keeping the grades up. It's real cool. The visit was the same old, nice visit really. It was good talking to the coaches."
