Offers piling up for Ward

Aberdeen standout Channing Ward will likely be the top prospect in the state of Mississippi in 2012 and he already has the offer sheet to prove it.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound defensive end's scholarship list reads like a who's who among college football having already picked up a dozen offers.

"I've been getting a lot of attention really," Ward said. "One school will offer me one day and then another school will offer me the next day. Everything has been going good."

Ward has landed scholarship offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Tennessee.

He is also on the verge of possibly landing another major offer from the Big 12.

"Texas has been calling me but they haven't offered yet," Ward said.

Ward lined up all over the field for Aberdeen this past season leading the team with 132 tackles, 17 stops for loss, 12 sacks and two interceptions - one of which he took back for a touchdown. He also played a little tight end on offense adding 396 receiving yards and five more touchdowns as well as rushing for another score helping lead the Bulldogs to the Class 3A state title game.
