New JUCO target set to visit

Raymond (Miss.) Hinds C.C. defensive end Chris Baker has shown up on the radar of Texas Tech, and once again assistant coach Robert Prunty is leading the charge.

"They came to the school and talked with me on Monday. I got to talk with Coach Prunty and he's a really cool guy," Baker said. "One of my teammates, Leon Mackey, knew Coach P from Hargrave so I've kind of been involved with him since the spring. I think he's a good guy and I trust him. He's easy to get along with."

Baker will be visiting the Red Raiders on January 28th, and a decision will come soon thereafter,

"I'll be out there on the 28th for my last visit, and then it will be time to make a decision," he said. "I don't know if I'll wait until signing day to do it, or if it might come sooner, but either way I won't have a lot of time between my visit and signing day to decide. So, if I feel like I find a good home it's possible that I could decide then."

The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder is teammates with another one of Tech's targets in defensive end Leon Mackey. A close relationship between the two might see them as teammates again in the future.

"Yes, sir. We've got a great relationship. Me and Leon are like brothers and I look up to him a lot. I think he's down to his top three with Tech still in the running, but I don't know what his decision will be. I don't know if it will happen or not, but I don't think either of us would mind continuing to play with each other. So we'll see how it works out. I'm looking forward to getting out there and seeing what Texas Tech is all about."

Baker currently holds offers from East Carolina, Indiana, Iowa State, Marshall, Memphis, Mississippi, Nevada, Purdue, Southern Miss, and UCF.
