QB now solid with Heels

For weeks rumors have swirled wildly regarding the future of four-star quarterback Marquise Williams.

The four-star prospect from Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek is hoping he is able to put all of those rumors to rest for good, though he admits he only recently decided what he wants to do with his future.

"I'm solid with UNC," Williams said on Sunday afternoon.

"I just have that connection with coach Shoop. They've told me how much of a pleasure it would be to coach me. They've said they'll take care of me. It will be like having a father up there. I'm just feeling that connection and feeling the love."

Williams admits that for a while he wasn't sure if UNC was where he thought he would end up.

"It was between Virginia Tech and (North) Carolina," he said. "Man, it was close. At the time everybody was saying, 'Carolina's going down,' and I thought I had to have a backup plan.

"I talked to coach Butch (Davis), though, and he told me to trust him. He told me nothing's going to happen and I should just trust him. So I trust him. I feel good about things."

The 6-foot-3, 218-pound prospect is ranked the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by Rivals.com.

Williams originally gave his verbal commitment to UNC over the summer.
