CMU: Primed For Big Finish
With Christmas just around the corner, the Central Michigan football program has the potential to add plenty of gifts to their 2011 recruiting class. While CMU has added several good football players in the past few weeks, the Chippewas have set themselves up for what could be a big finish. Today we look at some of CMU's top targets and their current standing with CMU.
Warren Cousino (MI) tight end Ben McCord
Skinny: McCord was down to CMU and Ball State before Stan Parris got the axe as Cardinals head coach. He re-opened and said he was still down to those two programs, but was waiting to see who Ball State hired. As it stands, the Cardinals just hired Elon head coach Pete Lembo, so we'll have to see what type of staff shake up he does in Muncie.
Flint Northern (MI) running back Thomas Rawls
Skinny: At this point it appears to be down to CMU and Michigan, although he has yet to receive an offer from the Wolverines. He still has official visits set to Cincinnati and Toledo, but he admits his relationship with those two coaching staffs does not mirror the ones with the Chippewas or Wolverines.
Flint Southwestern (MI) wide receiver Kendrick Roberts
Skinny: Perhaps the state's biggest sleeper, Roberts has visited CMU numerous times and recently visited Western Michigan. He has also had visits to Purdue and Iowa, although only the Hawkeyes have officially offered.
Thomas Johnson (MD) athlete DeAndre Scott
Skinny: Scott has held a CMU offer for over a year, and also holds an offer from Navy. He took a visit to New Mexico and was very impressed, but has yet to net an offer. Scott claims that he favors New Mexico at this point and said he is looking to commit soon.
American Heritage (FL) wide receiver Andrew Flory
Skinny: Flory favors CMU and Utah State at the present time, although things could get muddled if he nets more offers. Both programs are set to welcome Flory to campus for visits, with the Chippewas getting the first crack on January 14th.
Wheaton South (IL) wide receiver Titus Davis
Skinny: Davis has yet to receive an offer from CMU to join the existing one he has from Toledo, but he is definitely a prospect rising up the board. He has already visited Toledo and is set to visit CMU on January 14th and Illinois on January 21st.
Chicago St. Rita (IL) tight end Tim Gorski
Skinny: Gorski is being recruited by most schools as an offensive tackle, but CMU see's potential as a tight end. Gorski is 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds and holds offers from CMU, Western Kentucky, Toledo and Illinois State. He has already visited Toledo and is set to take his official visit to CMU on January 14th.
Seton Hall Prep (NJ) running back Kevin Monangai
Skinny: Monangai has seen his recruitment steadily rise these pase few weeks, and he picked up a CMU offer about a month ago. He was able to officially visit CMU in early December and reportedly enjoyed it. His only other current offers are from Monmouth, Towson and Fordham.
Detroit Crockett athlete Ashton Gaines
Skinny: Has a top four of CMU, Wisconsin, Toledo and Illinois, but only the Rockets and Chippewas have offered thus far. Gaines is expected to take all his official visits before making a decision.
Traverse City St. Francis (MI) offensive lineman Kyle Lints
Skinny: Like McCord, Lints re-opened from Ball State once Parrish was fired. He holds offers from CMU, Eastern Michigan and Ball State.
