Gordon recaps unofficial visit

The past week has been a bit of a whirlwind for three-star running back Melvin Gordon. After verbally committing to play for Kirk Ferentz at Iowa over the summer, Gordon wavered on his decision and officially decommitted from the Hawkeyes last week.

After spending Saturday inside a raucous Camp Randall Stadium for UW's Big Ten clinching win over Northwestern, it seems as though the Kenosha Bradford star is very high on Wisconsin.

"That's where I'm leaning to right now," Gordon told Sunday evening. "Syracuse called and offered me, but I'm leaning towards Wisconsin because I want to stay closer to home.

"Wisconsin is the school I'm looking at."

Melvin is the most comfortable playing at running back, and according to him that is where the coaching staff sees him contributing. With the game day atmosphere, and one with a plenty on the line, Gordon was still able to talk with Bret Bielema.

"I talked to the head coach for a little bit," Gordon said. "We went out for the game and it was really cool. I liked it."

In Madison for an unofficial visit, Gordon said he was able to spend time talking with several other recruits in attendance.

"I talked to some of the recruits there, Jake Keefer, Derek Watt and a couple other recruits," Gordon said. "We all click well. After the game we went into the locker room and all the players were excited. They were all shaking our hand. The coaches were like, 'Hey, go in there and be a part of this.' It was crazy.

"I loved it."

Gordon, who is scheduled to visit officially next weekend, said he doesn't have a set timetable for making any decision. But he does have a feeling it will come sooner rather than later.

"It will be soon," Gordon said. "It will be real soon. I definitely won't be taking until February or anything like that."

Wisconsin currently has 20 verbal commitments in the 2011 class, including seven from within the state.
