2011 target plans to visit VT this weekend

Virginia Tech is expecting a few prospects on campus for the Hokies game on Saturday. Amongst those is a senior prospect that Tech continues to keep an eye on.

"I'll be up at Tech on Saturday for the Central Michigan game," Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes offensive tackle Chaz Lowery said. "I'm going to Tech this next weekend and then to East Carolina the weekend after that."

Lowery discussed his status with both schools.

"I'm interested in East Carolina since they've offered me. I went down there this summer, but I want to see what their football environment is like as well as spend some more time with their staff. I want to meet some of the players and just get a better feel for it," he said. "For Tech, I'm coming up there because I have been talking with them. I just talked with Coach Newsome on Friday and I'm going up there to chat with the staff some more.

"I know the environment at Tech since I've been around it enough, but I'm looking more to talk to the staff and get a better feel on where they stand."

Obviously Coach Newsome gave him a bit of an idea about his status with the Hokies from his conversation on Friday. How did it go?

"He told me he had some scholarships he didn't think he was going to have and that he wanted to get some senior film to the staff."

Both trips are unofficial visits for Lowery; he added that he plans to take an official to East Carolina after the season.

Meanwhile, on the field, the two-star prospect continues to perform well.

"It's going well," he said. "I'm definitely seeing the benefits from the offseason. I'm just enjoying my senior year with my teammates. My strength and technique are better. Truly, I'm able to go into the game with confidence and the idea that I'm dominating the other side of the ball every play."
