DeLorenzo ready for action
Max DeLorenzo is ecstatic over the fact that he will be suiting up for the UConn football program more than a year from now, but as someone that simply loves the game of football he's excited about his own season, which will begin very shortly.
DeLorenzo and his teammates at Berlin will play their first game on September 17th, but their preparation has already begun.
"Last year because we had a lot of juniors and seniors a lot of guys just went one way," he told UConnReport.com. "That helped us a lot. I was strictly a running back. This year because so many guys graduated we're gonna have to go both ways. I'm going to be playing running back and some safety."
Playing in the secondary won't be anything new for DeLorenzo. During his freshman year at Berlin he was a cornerback on the varsity team. As a sophomore he played both running back and cornerback. Last year he played just running back.
"At first UConn was recruiting me for safety and when I went to their camp I was doing all the safety drills," he recalled. "They offered me and told me they don't know [what position he will play]. It could be safety, running back or linebacker. They just offered me as an athlete."
Two weeks ago DeLorenzo was at UConn with teammate and Class of 2012 prospect Tommy Undercuffler, along with their head coach and an assistant coach from Berlin. He watched the Huskies practice and had an opportunity to spend a little more time on the campus he will call home a year from now.
DeLorenzo's games will be on Fridays this year so he should have plenty of opportunities to watch his future teammates at UConn in action. He isn't sure which home games he will be attending yet, though.
