Montese Overton has three favorites

Linebacker Montese Overton from South Central High in Winterville, N.C., has seen his recruitment fly under the radar for much of the summer.

"I've been busy in the summer, so I didn't go out there and do any recruiting," Overton acknowledged after helping lead South Central to a 34-7 season-opening win over visiting Greene Central High from Snow Hill. "I keep getting the same offers and interest. It's not really coming as fast as it was before. I guess the season is coming, so it's kind of slowing down a little bit."

Overton, a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder, did do a few combines last winter and spring, running the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds and the shuttle in 4.36 seconds and doing 14 reps at 185 pounds on the bench press at a Shrine Bowl combine in Boone, N.C. He also had a 30.5-inch vertical leap at the U.S. Army All-American combine in San Antonio.
