Flint WR on Spartan radar

One of the players that Michigan State is keeping a close eye on this fall is wide receiver Kendrick Roberts of Flint Southwestern Academy. was able to catch up with this stock on the rise recruit and got the latest on his recruitment and upcoming season.

A few weeks ago Michigan State held their one-day elite camp. The crop of wide receivers in attendance was very solid, led by All-American DeAnthony Arnett of Saginaw High School. Several other division 1 prospects were hoping to make a strong impression at the camp, and based on what we saw Roberts did just that.
Roberts, who indicated that he currently checks in at 6-foot-3, 198-pounds, provided with some information about his recruitment.

"Right now I have offers from Iowa, Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Toledo," Roberts stated. "I am hearing from Michigan State, they are showing me a lot of interest, but still not offer. I know they talked with my coach recently."

Not having a Spartan offer is not something Roberts is overly concerned about. He is confident that by going out and having a great senior season he will impress college coaches and his recruitment will take care of itself. asked him about his upcoming season and the possibility of getting offered by Michigan State.

"I am confident I will have a great season," Roberts said. "We have a new quarterback who has been putting in the work and it is really starting to pay off. We just had a scrimmage against Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills and we looked pretty good. Getting an offer from Michigan State would me a lot. I feel blessed that I have the opportunity to play football in college because not every gets this chance."

So what are some of the things Roberts is looking for in a college and when could he make his college choice?

"I am thinking I might make my choice in the middle of my senior season, but I am not 100-percent sure. I have already visited several schools and I liked what I saw. The number one factor for me will be the academics the school has. I also want to make sure I like the environment the school has and how I get along with the coaches. I want it to be my home away from home. I like seeing how the coaches interact with the other players."

One school that is recruiting Roberts hard is Central Michigan led by former Spartan quarterback and current Chippewa Head Coach Dan Enos. Roberts has been to Mt Pleasant and the staff there is being very active. Iowa has recently jumped in the mix and would like to snag another Michigan wide receive like they did last year when they signed Kevonte Martin-Manley.

As many know Michigan State is very involved in the recruitment of Arnett, but that certainly does not mean they may not offer Roberts at some point this fall. With quality size and speed Roberts brings a lot of positives to the table. As a junior he caught 46 passes for 1,005 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has also one of the fastest 200M sprinters in Michigan, clocking a personal best 21.27 this past spring. will be sure to follow-up with Roberts in the coming weeks. It would not surprise us if he becomes the latest high-level football player to come out of Flint and have college gridiron success.
