Milton names Mississippi St. number one

Junior running back Derrick Milton won't be returning to Pineville (La.) High School to play his senior season because he would be ineligible due to his age.

So instead the 5-foot-11, 191-pounder will be enrolling at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., in August to play out his prep career in order to stay on track to sign with the 2011 class.

"I saw how successful Keiland Williams was and how a lot of big time players come out of there," Milton said. "It's a great school and all the boys stay focused. It just seems like what I need. They push you hard, workout hard and that's what I'm mainly looking at. They get you qualified academically and ACT-wise."

Milton has already earned one scholarship offer from Memphis and is receiving interest from several other programs that could soon join the Tigers.

"Recruiting is treating me lovely," Milton said. "I'm supposed to be getting an offer when I go down to Mississippi State this summer to their camp because they want to see me run. I'm in contact with Ole Miss and Alabama. They both like me. Things are going good but I'm staying humble about it."

But Milton does not shy away from naming a favorite among those schools that are pursuing his services.
