Versatile athlete takes in practice
Running back/defensive back Tyler Ervin (5-10, 170, 4.45) from Colton, Calif., was one of many players from the southland to be invited to take in a Bruin practice last Saturday. Like many players that UCLA is recruiting, Ervin is very athletic and versatile. He could end up playing on either side of the ball on the D-I level.
Ervin earned all-CIF as a running back and was first-team all-league as a running back and defensive back as a junior. He rushed for 1,409 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging 9.5 yards per carry.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ervin accounted for 52 tackles, 24 pass deflections and two interceptions.
The athletic Ervin is also outstanding returning punts and kicks. He had 239 punt return yards while averaging 10.0 yards per punt return with a long of 65 yards and he had 217 kick return yards while averaging 24.1 yards per kick return with a long of 80 yards.
