Spartans offer massive Ohio OL

One of the biggest prospects in the state of Ohio for the class of 2011 is offensive line prospect Tommy Brown of Firestone High school in Akron. The 6-foot-5, 332-pound Brown is starting to accumulate an impressive list of scholarships and Michigan State recently pulled the trigger on an offer. SpartanaMag.com caught up with Brown and has the latest on him and his recruitment.

As usual it is another very good year for offensive line talent in the state of Ohio. Last year the Spartans signed a great group of lineman form the Buckeye State and they have their eyes on a few key prospects this year as well. Tommy Brown is one of a few select linemen that the staff has offered and is looking forward to having on campus in the near future.

Prior to yesterday, Brown had mainly MAC offers as Akron, Toledo, Ball state and Ohio University had extended him a scholarship. However, in one day Brown picked up 3 BCS scholarship offers, including one from Michigan State.

"Michigan State, West Virginia and Duke have offered me a scholarship Brown said. They are just verbal offers. Michigan State wants me to come up there to make it official. I spoke with Coach Narduzzi and I am hoping to get up there soon."
Brown has had a busy spring. He has attended several junior day functions and is hearing from a multitude of other programs.

"I have been to Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Akron, University of Michigan and Ohio State," Brown said. I am hearing from pretty much everyone in the Big Ten and MAC. I also am hearing from a few ACC schools."

Brown indicated that being from Ohio he did grow up following the Buckeyes, but he understands that he needs to keep all of his options open at this point.

Brown stated that he is not sure when he will be able to make it to East Lansing, but it is something he definitely plans on doing in the near future.

""I have not been to Michigan state, but I hope to get up there this spring. It was great to get the offer. I have been waiting for the big ones. Coach Narduzzi said they like how I move for my size and my athleticism."

As of right now Brown is not in a big hurry to make his college selection. Not only does he want to see what other teams offer him a scholarship, but he also wants to make sure he gets an opportunity to check out several schools in person.

One thing Brown is really looking forward to is his senior year. Firestone High school returns most of its top players including Brown and the expectations are that they can challenge for the city title and make some noise in the playoffs.

Spartanmag.com will continue to follow-up with Brown in the coming weeks. Michigan State's pro-style/power offense would seem to be a good fit for a player with Brown's skill set. You can be sure offensive line Coach Dan Roushar will be looking forward to seeing Brown stop into a session of camp this summer.
